308?!?Įdited again: It's a Spanish model 1916 short mauser-type rifle that was Rechambered in the 60s for 7.62x51 NATO round.Ī sincere thank you to Bumblebee_Bob, Seven-Shooter, MVolkJ, autofix4u, ASUsax, Deussne, xylo, and everyone else that responded. 308 rounds into it on a whim and they cycled perfectly. If you need any more don't hesitate to ask.Įdited to add: I just loaded a few. Here are photos of every angle of the gun I could think of. Additionally, what would be the best way to go about removing the rust on the surface of this gun? Is it safe to shoot? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I would like to know the make and model, and especially caliber, so that I can order ammo and a Tapco stock for it. I have not been able to find any identifying marks on the weapon, only the serial number on the bent bolt, left side of the receiver, trigger assembly, and internal magazine floor plate. It appears there is a space for a cleaning rod beneath the barrel, although the stock is damaged in that area.Ī few hours of internet searching has led me to thinking the action is a Mauser (or clone), but the stock looks very much like a Mosin M39 stock, and not like what I've seen on other Mausers. The rifle is set up to accept a stripper clip, and the bolt locks back when empty as the internal magazine floor plate raises up to block the bolt from going forward and there is a bayonet lug. My calipers read between 0.270 and 0.302 thousandths as you rotate them within the bore. The barrel length is 21.75" and appears to be a. The rifle weighs just over 7.5 pounds and the overall length is approximately 41.5". The rifling is surprisingly good and the bolt is very smooth, all things considered. There is surface rust and minor pitting along the length of rifle with approximately 30% of the bluing remaining in the exposed areas.

I do not know if the bolt has been open the entire time the rifle has sat. When I purchased the rifle, the bolt was stuck open as the rearward portion of the bolt was turned 90 degrees and this kept the bolt from going forward. The rifle was out of direct rain, but the humidity and moisture has token a toll.

The previous owner left the gun in a dilapidated shed for approximately 12 years. I was told the rifle is Chinese but the owner had no other information besides that. I purchased this rifle at a garage sale for $20.
